Associate's Degree in Modern Policing
The Modern Policing degree refers to contemporary methods, strategies, and philosophies used by law enforcement agencies to maintain public safety, enforce laws, and build relationships with communities. It reflects a shift from traditional, reactive policing (focused mainly on responding to crimes after they occur) to more proactive, community-oriented, data-driven, Constitutional, and humanistic approaches. Modern Policing reflects the future of law enforcement in America.
Modern Policing is dynamic and continually evolving in response to societal needs, technological advancements, and lessons learned from past practices. It requires a balance between maintaining law and order while fostering trust and cooperation within diverse communities.
Modern Policing is central to creating an ethical, just, and effective law enforcement system. It focuses on the idea that public safety and civil liberties are not mutually exclusive but must coexist in a democratic society.
Satisfies California Assembly Bill 89, California Penal Code Section 13511.1, and Section 1031.4 of the Government Code.
