Non-Credit Police Defensive Tactics and Arrest & Control Course

Provides basic competencies in arrest and control techniques and knowledge regarding Use of Force (UoF) laws and policies.  For their own safety, and the safety of others, peace officers must maintain awareness and respond appropriately when confronted with potential hazards and threats.  This course emphasizes articulation and de-escalation techniques along with the skills to effect and arrest, prevent escape, and overcome resistance, while using the amount of force reasonable and necessary to legally and ethically control the situation.

As part of the College's Non-Credit programs, this course is offered free of tuition and fees for our students.

Student Learning Outcome

1. Demonstrate the basic skill sets necessary to overcome resistance and effect an arrest of an aggressive and/or combative suspect.
2. Properly explain the reasonable and necessary justification for the Use of Force and techniques applied.
