Design Concepts Unveiled
Thirteen students from the Bachelor of Science in Building Performance program presented end-of-semester projects at the Intercultural Center on Wednesday, Dec. 10. Architectural design concepts were unveiled to faculty and invited jurors. The inaugural cohort is on track to graduate this spring.

Nursing's Newest Stars
Fifty-eight nursing students received their graduation pins during a ceremony at the Performing Arts Center on Monday, Dec. 8. The 42 women and 16 men will be able to wear the pins during commencement. More than half are concurrently enrolled in Bachelor of Science in Nursing programs.

Kwanzaa Celebrated
The Intercultural Center hosted a Kwanzaa Gathering on Wednesday, Dec. 3. The event featured performances by the Tey Sa Thiosanne African Drum and Dance Company, as well as plenty of inspiring voices, good food, and the joyful energy of the Nguzo Saba (Seven Principles of Kwanzaa).

MESA Celebrates 25 Years
MESA (Mathematics, Engineering and Science Achievement) celebrated its 25th anniversary on Tuesday, Nov. 25. The Aliso Courtyard event featured interactive skills lab demonstrations, giveaways, and food. Read More

Paralegal 20th Anniversary
Paralegal Studies marked its 20th anniversary with a celebration in the University Center lobby on Saturday, Nov. 1. The event brought current students and alumni together with program faculty and staff.

Starstruck
The fall Star Party drew crowds of all ages to the Canyon Country campus on Friday, Oct. 24, for star-gazing, a presentation by a NASA scientist, and science-related activities. Dr. Athina Peidou of NASA’s Jet Propulsion Laboratory shared insights from NASA’s mission tracking the movement of water across Earth.

Jobs in Progress
Hundreds of job-seekers packed the West PE gymnasium for the Santa Clarita Job Fair on Friday, Oct. 17. Career Services' biannual event was presented in partnership with the SCV Economic Development Corp., SCV Chamber of Commerce, City of Santa Clarita, and America's Job Center of California.

Indigenous Celebration
The Intercultural Center and Native American Indigenous Alliance celebrated Indigenous People's Day on Monday, Oct. 13. Attendees were treated to Native American performances, demonstrations, and a complimentary meal vegetable stew and fry bread for the first 50 people.

Golf Tournament
Golfers were out in force at Valencia Country Club for the COC Foundation's SiteOne and Hunter Industries Swing for Student Success golf tournament on Monday, Oct. 20. Presented by Orion Risk Management, the tournament supports students with scholarships, emergency aid, and other vital services.

Into the Stratosphere
The College of the Canyons chapter of the Society of Physics Students successfully launched a high-altitude balloon carrying a scientific device that members designed and built. The payload included a bio-aerosol sampler to collect microorganisms in the stratosphere. The work is part of a scientific thesis by instructor and chapter advisor Kimberly Berthet. Read More
Student Experiment Soars
An experiment designed by College of the Canyons students soared into the upper stratosphere aboard NASA's High Altitude Student Platform scientific research balloon on Thursday, Sept. 4. The device, designed to capture atomic spectra of the sun's corona, was built by members of the college's Aerospace and Science Team. The balloon was launched from Fort Sumner, N.M.

Homecoming
The Athletic Department and Campus Life & Student Engagement hosted the 2025 Homecoming Celebration at Cougar Stadium on Thursday, Oct. 9. The event featured family-friendly games and activities.
Generosity Celebrated
Scholarship recipients and the donors who made the awards possible came together during the Scholarship Awards Celebration on Thursday, May 29. The event at the University Center recognized donors and gave students an opportunity to thank them for more than $265,000 in scholarships.
Excellence Applauded
The Athletic Department honored graduating and transferring student-athletes on Thursday, May 22. The College of the Canyons graduating class of 2025 includes more than 110 student-athletes with a combined GPA above 3.38. READ MORE
Children's Art Exhibit
A steady stream of parents and relatives descended on the Canyon Country campus library for the Children’s Center Art Exhibit on Thursday, May 22. Multiple works stretched from the entrance to a large exhibit room, with many of the young artists on hand to describe their work and answer questions.
Shining Stars
College of the Canyons employees were honored during Classified Appreciation Week May 12 to 16. Individual awards went to Lisette Godinez, Employee of the Year; Michelle Goodman, Sandra Hernandez Empowerment & Mentorship; Edwin Bizarro, Professional Achievement; Meredith Hamilton, Dare to Dream; Ashley Basset, Humanitarian; Blanca Schreier, Gloria Jackson Customer Service; Lisette Godinez, CSEA Member of the Year; and Michael Monsour, Classified Spirit.
ZTC Progress
California Community Colleges Board of Governors President Hildegarde Aguinaldo offered remarks during a statewide ZTC (Zero Textbook Costs) Summit at the college on Friday, May 9. The summit documented grantees' progress during the program's second year. It was the second such summit hosted by the college, which serves as technical assistance provider for the chancellor's office. Interim Superintendent-President David Andrus also spoke to attendees.
Artivism
Billed as a celebration of the intersection of art and social change, Teach-ins with Artivism featured hands-on activities, performances, and artistry on Wednesday, May 7. The event featured metalwork, jewelry, graphic design, paintings, and poetry – all designed to challenge and inspire action for positive change. The event concluded with keynote speaker Shonda Buchanan (above, lower left), author of the award-winning memoir Black Indian.
Star Party
The Canyon Country campus celebrated its 30th Star Party & Science Showcase on Friday, April 25. The event featured high-powered telescopes for viewing the night sky, hands-on demonstrations and activities organized by students and faculty members, and an informative lecture on "The Unfolding Story of Exoplanets" by College of the Canyons Astronomy Professor Michaela Blain. The popular community event is held twice a year, in the spring and fall.
