Important Update

We are excited about your interest in the Public Health profession, and we want to let you know about an upcoming change to the Associate in Science for Transfer: Public Health Science degree.

Due to changes at the state level, this transfer pathway is changing, and we will be removing the current Public Health Science degree from our catalog effective Fall 2025. In its place, we will begin a new degree in Fall 2025 – the Associate in Science for Transfer: Public Health degree.

Due to the nature of our discipline, it is essential to acknowledge how the topic of Public Health has evolved over the years and address the challenges Public Health professionals are navigating. This change aims to provide students with a more tailored education that directly prepares them for careers in public health, rather than a more general health science degree that may cover a wider range of topics. It will also assist with increased specialization, better career preparation, and alignment with the standards of the Public Health profession, as well as increase potential opportunities to pursue a dual degree with other disciplines that work closely with Public Health professionals.

The new degree will also accommodate the changes to courses impacted by common course numbering. We have also added a new course, HLHSCI 113: Social Determinants of Health, Disparities, and Equities, which will be offered for the first time in Fall 2025. We hope to see you in the course this Fall.

As long as you maintain continuous enrollment, you can still complete the Public Health Science degree, and the CSU system will continue to honor the transfer guarantee of the Public Health Science degree for students who complete the program and begin enrollment at a CSU by Spring of 2026.

If you prefer the new Public Health degree, you may update your major to reflect that choice, but there is no need to update your major as long as you complete and transfer before the deadline.

If you think you will complete your associate degree and transfer after the Spring 2026 semester, we encourage you to change your major to the new Associate in Science for Transfer: Public Health program to ensure a smooth transfer experience.

The other important thing to note is that if you have a break in enrollment, you would not be able to rejoin the Public Health Science degree and would instead select the Public Health degree when you reapply.

Thank you.
